Privacy Policy

Last updated: September 26, 2026

At OLOCR, we are committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we handle your information when you use our OCR (Optical Character Recognition) service.

🔒 Core Privacy Principle

All OCR processing happens entirely in your browser. Your images and PDF files are never uploaded to our servers. They remain on your device at all times.

1. Information We Collect

1.1 What We Do NOT Collect

  • Your images, PDFs, or any files you use for OCR — these are processed entirely in your browser and never sent to our servers
  • OCR results from basic text extraction — the recognized text stays in your browser

1.2 Account Information

If you sign in using Google or GitHub, we collect basic profile information provided by these services, including your name, email address, and profile picture. This information is used solely for account management and authentication.

1.3 Usage Analytics

We use Google Analytics 4 (GA4) to collect anonymous usage statistics, including:

  • Page views and general site usage patterns
  • OCR usage statistics (e.g., number of files processed, file types used) — no file content is collected
  • Standard analytics data such as browser type, device type, and approximate geographic region

This data is anonymous and cannot be used to identify you personally.

2. AI Optimization Feature

OLOCR offers an optional AI-powered text optimization feature to improve OCR accuracy. When you choose to use this feature:

  • The recognized text (not your original images or PDFs) is sent through our server to a third-party AI service (Google Gemini) for processing
  • Your original images and PDF files are never sent to our server or any third party — they remain in your browser
  • The text data is transmitted in real-time for processing and is not permanently stored on our servers
  • This feature is entirely optional — basic OCR operates fully in your browser without any server communication

3. Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services:

  • Google Analytics 4: For anonymous usage statistics and site performance analysis
  • Google AdSense: For displaying advertisements. AdSense may use cookies to serve ads based on your browsing activity
  • Google Gemini: For the optional AI text optimization feature. Only recognized text (not images or files) is sent for processing
  • OAuth Providers (Google, GitHub): For user authentication only. We receive basic profile information as described in Section 1.2

We do not sell, trade, or rent your personal information to any third party.

4. Cookies

We use the following types of cookies:

  • Authentication cookies: To maintain your sign in session if you sign in
  • Analytics cookies: Set by Google Analytics 4 to collect anonymous usage data
  • Advertising cookies: Set by Google AdSense to display relevant advertisements

You can control cookies through your browser settings. Disabling cookies may affect authentication functionality but will not impact the core OCR features.

5. Data Storage

Your files and OCR results are stored locally in your browser and are never transmitted to our servers (except recognized text when using the optional AI Optimization feature, as described in Section 2).

If you create an account, your account information (name, email, profile picture) is stored securely on our servers and retained for as long as your account is active.

All data transmitted between your browser and our servers is encrypted using SSL/TLS protocols.

6. Your Rights

Depending on your location, you may have the following rights regarding your personal information:

  • Access: Request access to the personal information we hold about you
  • Correction: Request correction of inaccurate or incomplete information
  • Deletion: Request deletion of your account and associated data
  • Objection: Object to certain processing activities

To exercise these rights, please contact us using the information provided in the "Contact Us" section below.

7. Children's Privacy

Our service is not intended for children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will take steps to delete such information.

8. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with a new "Last updated" date. Your continued use of our service after changes become effective constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
